Clinton and Sanders able to top Trump?

  • by

According to a new CNN/ORC poll, both Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be able to beat Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in hypothetical general election matchups.

They’d face a harder time if Sen. Marco Rubio (FL.) or Sen. Ted Cruz (TX.) were to take the nomination.

For Democrats who had hoped to lure Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren into a presidential campaign, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders might be the next best thing. Sanders, who is opening his official presidential campaign Tuesday in Burlington, Vermont, aims to ignite a grassroots fire among left-leaning Democrats wary of Hillary Rodham Clinton. He is laying out an agenda in step with the party's progressive wing and compatible with Warren's platform _ reining in Wall Street banks, tackling college debt and creating a government-financed infrastructure jobs program. In the scenario that seems most likely to occur based on primary results, Clinton defeats Trump 52% to 44%.

She loses 47% to Rubio’s 50% and 48% to Cruz’s 49% in the new polls though.

Bernie Sanders trumps all three Republican contenders though, 57% to 40% against Cruz, 55% to 43% against Trump, and 53% to 45% against Rubio.
